THE LUNCH BOX
They planned to exhibit Enola Gay, the plane that dropped the bomb,
authentic photos of the characteristic mushroom,
information about the number of dead and megatons, massacres
and torture by both sides. For who is innocent
in a world where all breaches of faith are just taken note of?
And when as a gesture of reconciliation they asked people in Hiroshima
to make a contribution, they received a lunch box
with some charred grains of rice and scorched peas. The only thing
that remained of a twelve-year-old on the way to school on 6 August 1945.
