Grosse Fuge
(Ludwig van Beethoven)
zich van zichzelf ontdaan
de laatste brug verbrand
het eigen doodvonnis
met bloed ondertekend
omdat het niet anders kon
tot op het bot tot hij vond
het juiste snijdende geluid
van dit bestaan want zelf
als geen ander met de
neus op de feiten
verbeeldde hij zich heimelijk
dat niemand minder dan god
zo splijtend en zonder genade
sprak door zijn vervloekte en
daartoe uitverkoren mond?

the last bridge burnt
his own death sentence
signed with blood since
it could not be otherwise
pared to the bone till he
found the right searing sound
of this existence for
although like no one else
capable of facing facts
did he secretly imagine
that nobody lesser than god
so splittingly and mercilessly
spoke through his accursed
and thereto chosen mouth?
