De Nygifte
Neapolitansk folkemelodi,
”lo te voglio bene assaje"
Så smukt er ingen Steder
Som hos et nygift Par,
Selv Meubler der og Klæder
Den friske Ungdom har;
Med Eden er det lignet
Og ligner ei saa smaat:
O, der er saa velsignet,
Saa hyggeligt og godt!
Jeg gik, hvor Skovens Grene
Ud over Stien hang.
En lille Fugl sad ene,
Og derfor ei den sang;
Men var der To ved Reden,
De qvidred’ nok saa fro:
Rundt om dem var et Eden,
Fordi at de var to!
Alt har en Duft, en Tone,
Et eget trylleri;
Den søde, lille Kone
Er ene Skyld deri.
En kan ei Himlen finde,
Nej, man maa være to:
Jeg råder Mand og Qvinde:
Skynd jer at sætte Boe!
The Newly Weds
Neapolitan folk melody
‘lo te voglio bene assaje’
More beautiful is nowhere
Than newly weds’ first home,
The furnishings and clothes there
Have freshness all their own;
It has a touch of Eden,
A quite well-founded view:
Delightful is the scene and
So cosy and so true.
I took a woodland path where
The branches dipped down low.
A small bird sat apart there,
No notes were heard to flow;
Two close by had their nest and
Much chirping did ensue:
An Eden at its best and
Because they now were two!
The ambience discreetly
Has its own magic life;
And this is due completely
To his own charming wife.
No heaven’s within reach till
The seeker forms a pair:
So, love-birds, I beseech you:
To build a nest to share!
