Werner Aspenström: 'Drömmen om det engelska parlamentet'

drömmen om det engelska
parlamentet

De hissade ner korgar med spädbarn,
spädgrisar, lamm, gödkalvar.
Det var den längsta lina jag sett
nyanländ främling
från de korta trådarnas land.
Korgarna återkom tomma
och tömdes som sophinkar töms.
Oförtröttligt sändes nya
delikatesser ditner
till den okände i jordens mitt.
Mutor?
Fruktan för vad?
Kunde England sjunka i havet?
I parlamentet röstade man
om priset på någon jordbruksprodukt.
Ingen från Labour eller Tory
yttrade sig längre.
Sista ordet var sagt.
Röstningen pågick i invecklade,
för främlingen obegripliga turer.

the dream about the british
parliament

They hoisted down baskets with infants,
piglets, lambs, fatted calves.
It was the longest line I’ve ever seen,
newly arrived stranger
from the land of the short cords.
The baskets returned empty
or full of antique objects
that were emptied like rubbish bins are emptied.
Tirelessly new delicacies were sent down there
to the unknown one at the centre of the earth.
Bribes?
Fear of what?
Could Britain sink into the sea?
In parliament the vote was being taken
on the price of some agricultural product.
No one from Labour or the Tories
uttered anything more.
The last word had been said.
The voting took place in convoluted and
to the stranger incomprehensible rounds.
