morgen

 

i vintermorgens sorte mørke

lyder fra huse hanernes kor —

skygger af mænd

tramper mod havnens lygte —

motorers dunk trækker usynlige baade

mod pibende hav —

istunge byger fejer fra lave tage

kulrøgens brune sløjfer

udover havet —

 

 

morning

 

in winter morning’s black darkness

the cockerels’ chorus sounds from houses –

men’s shadows

trudge toward the harbour’s light –

the chugging of engines pulls invisible boats

towards a wheezing sea –

from low roofs ice-heaving showers

sweep coal smoke’s brown trails

out across the sea –
