Ragnar Thoursie: 'The sea is everywhere'

Havet är överallt

Du skall ej undkomma
tack vare ett lyckans vindkast. –

Inte kan du med kniv
skilja mussla ur skal.
Hör havet larmar än
bakom vita dynor.

Stranden tillhör barndom och hamn,
havet kan man ej uppsöka, det är överallt.
Ja på den vita stranden uppkastas
du när kniven befriad simmar
ur dina knutna fingrars vattenådror.

The sea is everywhere

You will not escape
thanks to a chance gust of fortune. –

Nor can you with a knife
separate mussel from shell.
Hear the sea’s clamour still
behind white pillows.

The shore belongs to childhood and harbour,
the sea one cannot seek out, it is everywhere.
Yes you will be spewn onto the white
shore when the knife released swims
out of your clenched fingers’ veins of water.
