The frugal meal
Under the lamp at table
we sit silently eating; our hands
coming and going like white flecks;
our ringed fingers aimlessly
toying with the familiar bread.
There is no joy nothing unusual
about the sound of our
knives and forks.
And naturally we know nothing
of the happiness of travellers
in an evening train.
