THE FACE
Here a woman’s standing combing her hair,
her extremely long, chestnut-brown,
her crackling hair.
And here a child’s sitting on a floor waiting
for the face, hidden behind the crackling curtain
to become visible again.
The same eyes! The same nostrils! The same mouth!
The infant child shrieks.
The grown-up child swallows its shriek.
The aged child mumbles.
