Zelfportret
De wouw, die hier zijn standplaats heeft,
heeft zijn beschermer overleefd,
die neergeslagen is bij het maaien
en aan wiens brauw het zweet nog beeft.
Zijn vleugelen blinken lichterlaaie
terwijl hij om de dode zweeft.
Self-portrait
The kite, of its fixed place deprived,
its sole protector has survived,
who during mowing was laid low
and on whose brow the sweat still pearls.
Its glinting wings are all aglow
while round the corpse it slowly swirls.
